Research Question 1

1) What are the causes of obesity?

Nowadays, many Malaysians are categorized as obese. Obesity is one major problem that seems normal to us and not many are trying to reduce or to prevent this problem. It is whether they are unable to find the right way or they hardly left their everyday habits. In order to prevent or to reduce weight problem, first, we need to look at the possible causes of over weight. These are a few causes of obesity.

First and foremost, the overeating. Many restaurants and food courts offer great foods, with reasonable prices, as for buyers, we usually take these chances to buy foods without thinking of the calories in those foods. Many of us do not really care about everyday’s calories. Hence, this are the things that make us eat more. So, overeating can be very a very good factor of obese.

The second cause is genetic. The genetic disorders can leads to over weight. When your parents are over weight, you are also taken into consideration of getting obese. According to a research carried by World Health Organization (WHO), the Indian sub-continent are more prone to diabetes which is caused from over weight condition. Not just that, other part of this world too.

Medication and drugs are also factors of being obese. Medicine like pain killers, sedative, anti-depressants and typical antipsychotics can gain an individual to extra fat. So, the less you take it, the safer you are from being obese.

Another cause that is proven by many doctors in the world is the physical activity. Lacking of exercise encourage our body to keep as many fats as it can. We should exercise at least twenty minutes everyday. It is as easy as climbing stairs or walking. So, exercise more to reduce fat.

Family influence is also being mind into consideration when it comes to obese. The family traditions of cooking, eating or feasting, and so on are the causes of obese. It is because when a mother cooks, she wants her family to enjoy the meal, so she maybe added some extra sugar or extra calories of chicken, meat or anything in her cooking. Hence, it continues day by day until the family reaches some point of obese. so, the influence from the family is actually very important.

There are so many other factors or causes like depression, smoking, insufficient of sleep and so on that lead to over weight. Thus, we as a person can think and make a change. As in the proverb, prevention is better than cure.

The Definitions Of Obesity

Salam and Hi!

How is life, everyone?
Hope you guys are doing just fine.
For this post,we would like to brief about what is obesity.

According to Michael D. Myers,a practicing physician in Cypress,California (U.S) from http://www.weight.com/definition.asp,
obesity is an excess of body fat that frequently results in a significant impairment of health.

Referring to World Health Organization website http://www.who.int/en/,
overweight and obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health.

Based on http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/obesity/DS00314,
obesity is defined as having an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity is more than just a cosmetic concern, though. It increases your risk of diseases and health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

According to http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/123702-overview,
obesity involves BMIs greater than the 85th (commonly used to define overweight) or the 95th (commonly used to define obesity) percentile, respectively, for age-matched and sex-matched control subjects.

Meanwhile,referring to http://www.qof.ic.nhs.uk/glossary.asp,

obesity occurs when a person puts on weight to the extent that it seriously endangers health. It is defined as having a body mass index (BMI) that is greater than or equal to 30. In the QOF obesity prevalence is in respect of patients aged 16 and over.

Based on http://sportsmedicine.about.com,
obesity occurs when a person has too much body fat. Obesity is not the same as being overweight; a person is considered obese when they weigh 20% or more of the maximum desirable weight for their height.
